Michigan Interchange I-75 Closures

EMERGENCY DETOUR ALERT: Bridging North America (BNA) has implemented a new detour on Woodmere Street in response to the emergency closure of the Fort Street and Dearborn Street intersection. Northbound motorists heading toward Springwells Street northbound will be detoured to Fort Street eastbound/Melville Street eastbound, south on Green Street southbound, west on Jefferson Avenue westbound, north on Dearborn Street northbound, north on Woodmere Street, east on Vernor Highway eastbound, and then Springwells Street.

Fort Street - NEW

  • BNA has temporarily closed Fort Street between Livernois Avenue and Campbell Street for emergency pavement repairs. This closure will be in place until June 10, 2022.
  • The existing parking lane closure on Fort Street between McKinstry Street and Scotten Street will remain until June 15, 2022. Closures will be in place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily as needed.
  • The existing parking lane closure on eastbound Fort Street between Cavalry Street and Junction Street will remain closed until June 24, 2022, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • The existing mobile closure on Fort Street between Springwells Street and Clark Street will remain in place until December 23, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily as needed.

Clark Street - NEW

  • Clark Street will remain closed between Fort Street and the I-75 Service Drive until June 15, 2022.
  • The Clark Street entrance-ramp to northbound I-75 and the Clark Street exit-ramp at southbound I-75 will remain closed until June 15, 2022.
  • The right lane of southbound Clark Street will close at the corner of Jefferson Avenue to support drainage construction from June 6, 2022 until June 13, 2022.
  • Clark Street will close at the intersection of Fort Street until June 15, 2022.

Springwells Street - NEW

  • Springwells Street will close for a mobile closure between Fort Street and Olivet Street for pavement marking work from June 8 to 10, 2022.
  • Springwells Street will close between northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives for concrete barrier removal from June 7, 2022 to June 9, 2022, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily as needed.

Jefferson Avenue

  • The left lane of northbound Junction Street between northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive will close and be shifted to the left lane of southbound Junction Street until June 15, 2022.

Campbell Street

  • The existing long-term closure on Campbell Street between West Jefferson Avenue and Fort Street will remain in place until August 31, 2022.

I-75 Service Drive

  • Existing mobile closures on the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Clark Street and Green Streets, and Springwells and Central Streets will remain in place until October 31, 2022, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. as needed. Only one lane will close. Closures will be less than 30 minutes for mobilization and demobilization of equipment activities.
  • Mobile closures on northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Schaefer Avenue and Michigan Avenue will remain in place until October 28, 2022, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily as needed.
  • Northbound I-75 Service Drive is closed from Waterman Street to Dragoon Street until August 1, 2022.
  • Southbound I-75 Service Drive is closed from Waterman Street to Dragoon Street until August 1, 2022.
  • I-75 Service Drive in both directions is closed between Clark Street and Dragoon Street until June 15, 2022.
  • Northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive will close over a long-term period between Green Street and Waterman Street. Combined with pre-existing Service Drive closures in the area will make the entire northbound and southbound Service Drive closed from Springwells Street to Clark Street.

The following road closures are in place;

  • Waterman Street between northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives
  • Dragoon Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive
  • Green Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive.

I-75 Northbound - NEW

  • The Livernois exit-ramp at Northbound I-75 will close over a long-term period.
  • The existing left lane closure on northbound I-75 between Harbaugh Street and Clark Street will remain in place until September 26, 2022.

I-75 Southbound - NEW

  • The existing left lane closure on southbound I-75 will remain in place between Bagley Avenue and Junction Street until September 26, 2022.
  • The existing left lane closure on southbound I-75 between Springwells Street and McKinstry Street will remain in place until September 26, 2022.

Long Term I-75 Closures

As construction of the Michigan Interchange and the US Port of Entry (POE) continues, Bridging North America will extend the temporary closures along Livernois Avenue. Additionally, Cavalry Street and Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period. As a reminder, in July 2020, several streets closed over a long-term period including sections of Dragoon Street, Driggs Street, Harvey Street, Reeder Street and Hussar Street.

Livernois Avenue

  • Livernois Avenue will remain closed between Fort Street and Norfolk Southern Railroad Tracks (open for local traffic only) until June 10, 2022.
  • The Livernois Avenue ramps to north and southbound I-75 remain closed.
  • The Livernois Avenue entrance-ramp at southbound I-75 remains closed.

Springwells Court

  • Springwells Court northbound and southbound is closed west of the Lafarge entrance to east of the Springwells Court detour from May 15, 2021 until November 23, 2024.

Military Street

  • Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.

Cavalry Street

  • Cavalry Street will remain closed over a long-term period between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.

Post Street

  • Post Street remains closed over a long-term period between CSX Railroad and the Delray Mechanical entrance.

Construction Activities

US Port of Entry (POE)

  • Underground utility work, surcharge removal and the installation of utilities on Dragoon Street are ongoing.
  • Dock leveler bottom activities, the sheathing and framing of exterior walls and the installation of vapour barriers and overhead hangers continue for the commercial building. Work also continues on the conduits, precast panels as well as underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing activities.
  • Steel detailing and decking as well as stripping of secondary grade wall continues for the main building. Crews also continue underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing installation.
  • Steel detailing and underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing activities continue for the outbound building.
  • Grounding conduit installation continues for the remaining piers on the Skywalk bridge.
  • Sewer cleaning continues at Harvey Street.

US Bridge site

  • Concrete, rebar and formwork continue for the upper cross beam in the transition area for tower legs.
  • Work continues on anchor head rebar jib in the tower.
  • Floor beams are being erected for the pier table.
  • Work continues on the temporary bent and pier works for the side span.
  • Grading and obstruction removal continues in the bridge approach area.

Michigan Interchange

  • Pile driving and concrete work continues for the ramp activities along I-75.
  • Fencing installation continues at Livernois and Southbound I-75 Service Drive.
  • Formwork, concrete pours and stripping of barrier wall continue for the Solvay pedestrian bridge median pier.
  • Concrete work continues on shoulders for the Waterman Street bridge median and Livernois Avenue median pier.
  • Concrete work continues for Dragoon Street bridge median, Lansing Street pedestrian bridge median pier and Clark Street bridge median pier.
