Michigan Interchange I-75 Closures

EMERGENCY DETOUR ALERT: Bridging North America (BNA) has implemented a new detour on Woodmere Street in response to the emergency closure of the Fort Street and Dearborn Street intersection. Northbound motorists heading toward Springwells Street northbound will be detoured to Fort Street eastbound/Melville Street eastbound, south on Green Street southbound, west on Jefferson Avenue westbound, north on Dearborn Street northbound, north on Woodmere Street, east on Vernor Highway eastbound, and then Springwells Street.

 

West Jefferson Avenue - NEW

• West Jefferson Avenue will close to eastbound traffic between Dearborn Street and Zug Island Road from July 28 to August 26, 2022.
• West Jefferson Avenue will close to westbound traffic between Cary Street and Green Street from August 26 to September 30, 2022.

West End Street - NEW

• West End Street will close at West Jefferson Avenue from July 28 to September 30, 2022.

Dearborn Street - NEW

• Northbound or southbound Dearborn Street will close at Jefferson Avenue from August 15 to 19, 2022. Only one lane will close at a time.

Jefferson Avenue - NEW

• Eastbound or westbound Jefferson Avenue will close at Dearborn Street from August 15 to 19, 2022. Only one lane will close at a time.
• The right lane of eastbound Jefferson Avenue at the intersection of Dearborn Street will remain closed until September 12, 2022.
• The right lane of eastbound Jefferson Avenue between West End Street and Campbell Street will remain closed and be shifted to westbound Jefferson Avenue until September 12, 2022.

Green Street - NEW

• Green Street will remain closed between southbound I-75 Service Drive and Lafayette Boulevard until September 5, 2022.

Lafayette Boulevard - NEW

• Lafayette Boulevard will remain closed at the Green Street intersection until September 5, 2022.

Clark Street - NEW

• The existing Clark Street closure at the corner of Jefferson Avenue will remain in place until August 26, 2022. This closure has been extended due to unforeseen circumstances in the work area.
• The left lanes on southbound and northbound Clark Street will close at Fort Street until August 15, 2022, daily as needed.
• Northbound or southbound Clark Street will close between Fort Street and southbound I-75 Service Drive until September 9, 2022.
• Northbound or southbound Clark Street will close south of Fort Street until September 9, 2022.

Campbell Street

• The existing long-term closure on Campbell Street between West Jefferson Avenue and Fort Street will remain in place until August 31, 2022.

Fort Street - NEW

• The existing right lane and parking lane closure on westbound Fort Street between Wheelock Street and Beard Street will remain in place until September 5, 2022.
• The left and center left turn lanes on eastbound and westbound Fort Street will close at Clark Street from July 12 to August 15, 2022, daily as needed.
• The existing mobile closure on Fort Street between Springwells Street and Clark Street will remain in place until December 23, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily as needed.

Lewerenz Street - NEW

• Southbound Lewerenz Street will close at the southbound I-75 Service Drive from July 29 to August 18, 2022.
• Northbound Lewerenz Street will close between southbound I-75 Service Drive and Lafayette Boulevard from July 29 to August 18, 2022.

Springwells Street - NEW

• The right lanes on northbound and southbound Springwells Street will close between Fort Street and southbound I-75 Service Drive from August 9 to October 10, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily as needed. Mobile closures will be less than one hour as needed.

I-75 Service Drive - NEW

• Existing mobile closures on the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Clark Street and Green Streets, and Springwells and Central Streets will remain in place until October 31, 2022, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. as needed. Only one lane will close. Closures will be less than 30 minutes for mobilization and demobilization of equipment activities.
• Mobile closures on northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Schaefer Avenue and Michigan Avenue will remain in place until October 28, 2022, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily as needed.
• The existing northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive closures between Waterman Street and Dragoon Street will remain in place until December 16, 2022. These long-term closures have been extended to complete the realignment and reconstruction of the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives.

 

• Northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive will close over a long-term period between Green Street and Waterman Street. Combined with pre-existing Service Drive closures in the area will make the entire northbound and southbound Service Drive closed from Springwells Street to Clark Street.

The following road closures are in place;

• Waterman Street between northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives
• Dragoon Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive
• Green Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive.

 

• The southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Clark Street and Dragoon Street until December 16, 2022.
• The northbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Clark Street and Dragoon Street until December 16, 2022.
• The southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Junction Street and Clark Street until December 16, 2022, at 06:00 p.m.
• The northbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Junction Street and Clark Street until December 16, 2022 at 06:00 p.m.
• The southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Dragoon Street and Junction Street until December 16,2022 at 06:00 p.m.
• The northbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Dragoon Street and Junction Street until December 16, 2022 at 06:00 p.m.

I-75 Northbound

• The Livernois exit-ramp at Northbound I-75 will close over a long-term period.
• The existing left lane closure on northbound I-75 between Harbaugh Street and Clark Street will remain in place until September 26, 2022.

I-75 Southbound

• The existing left lane closure on southbound I-75 will remain in place between Bagley Avenue and Junction Street until September 26, 2022.
• The existing left lane closure on southbound I-75 between Springwells Street and McKinstry Street will remain in place until September 26, 2022. 

Long Term I-75 Closures

As construction of the Michigan Interchange and the US Port of Entry (POE) continues, Bridging North America will extend the temporary closures along Livernois Avenue. Additionally, Cavalry Street and Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period. As a reminder, in July 2020, several streets closed over a long-term period including sections of Dragoon Street, Driggs Street, Harvey Street, Reeder Street and Hussar Street.

 

Junction Street

• Junction Street bridge between the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives will close over a long-term period.

Springwells Court

• Springwells Court northbound and southbound is closed west of the Lafarge entrance to east of the Springwells Court detour from May 15, 2021 until November 23, 2024.

Cavalry Street

• Cavalry Street will remain closed between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.

Military Street

• Military Street will remain closed between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.

Post Street

• Post Street remains closed over a long-term period between CSX Railroad and the Delray Mechanical entrance.

Construction Activities 

US Port of Entry (POE)

• Installation of underground wet and dry utilities continue at South Street.
• Installation of panels, overhead hangers and conduits, the air barrier around the façade of the building and concrete masonry unit blocks at east wall continue for the commercial building. Crews are also backfilling screen walls in the service yard.
• Underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing works continue for the main building as well as framing, the installation of hangers on the second floor and the installation of precast panels.
• Column encasement work, underground piping and the erection of the blast frame continues for the outbound building.
• Excavation continues for the footing foundation for the commercial canopy.
• Excavation continues for the footing foundation for the non-commercial canopy.
• Excavation continues for the USDA building foundation.
• Preparation continues for manhole construction at Calvary and Harvey.

US Bridge site

• Rebar activities continue for the upper cross beam in the transition area of the tower legs.
• Floor beams, edge and redundancy girders are being erected at the side span deck.
• Concrete, rebar and formwork continue for anchor piers.
• Pile driving continues for the approach bridge.

Michigan Interchange

• Teams installed girders on the Beard, Solvay, Waterman and Green Street bridges.
• Median pier is being removed for the Lansing Street pedestrian bridge as the barrier wall is being formed, poured and stripped.
• Second level bracing on Calvary Street has been removed.
• Sheet pile removal work continues on Calvary Street.
• Barrier wall is being formed, poured and stripped on the Ferdinand Street pedestrian bridge.
• Pile driving and concrete work continues for the ramp activities along I-75.
