Michigan Interchange I-75 Closures

EMERGENCY DETOUR ALERT: Bridging North America (BNA) has implemented a new detour on Woodmere Street in response to the emergency closure of the Fort Street and Dearborn Street intersection. Northbound motorists heading toward Springwells Street northbound will be detoured to Fort Street eastbound/Melville Street eastbound, south on Green Street southbound, west on Jefferson Avenue westbound, north on Dearborn Street northbound, north on Woodmere Street, east on Vernor Highway eastbound, and then Springwells Street.

 

Fort Street - NEW

  • The existing mobile closure on Fort Street between Springwells Street and Clark Street will remain in place
    until December 23, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily as needed.
  • All lanes of Fort Street will close between Crawford Street and Campbell Street from November 18 until November 21, 2022.
  • The right lane of westbound Fort Street will close between Campbell Street and Morrell Street from November 18 until November 21, 2022.
  • he right lane of eastbound Fort Street will close between West End Street and Crawford Street from November 18 until November 21, 2022.
  • The right lane of westbound Fort Street will close between Dragoon Street and Livernois Avenue from November 9, 2022 until December 3, 2022.

West Jefferson Avenue - NEW

  • West Jefferson Avenue will be reduced to one-way traffic between West End Street and Springwells Court for the transportation of materials from November 10, 2022 until November 30, 2022, from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily as needed. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic.
  • The existing closure on eastbound West Jefferson Avenue between Zug Island and Springwells Court will remain in place until November 30, 2022.

Jefferson Avenue 

  • The right lane of eastbound Jefferson Avenue between West End Street and Campbell Street will remain closed, and traffic will continue to be shifted to westbound Jefferson Avenue until November 30, 2022.

West End Street 

  • Southbound and northbound I-75 Service Drives will remain closed between Wheelock Street and Springwells Street until December 16, 2022.

Livernois Avenue - NEW

  • All lanes on southbound Livernois Avenue will close between Fort Street and Lafayette Boulevard on
    November 11 - 14, 2022; and November 18 - 21, 2022.
  • The right lane of northbound Livernois Avenue will close between Fort Street and Lafayette Boulevard from November 9 until December 3, 2022.
  • The existing closure on Livernois Avenue between Fort Street and Norfolk Southern Railroad Tracks will remain in place until April 28, 2023.

I-75 Northbound 

  • The Livernois exit-ramp at Northbound I-75 will close over a long-term period.

I-75 Southbound

  • The right shoulder and right lane will close on northbound I-75 from Springwells Street to Clark Street from September 26, 2022 – December 18, 2023.
  • The right shoulder and right lane will close on southbound I-75 from Bagley Avenue to Springwells Street from October 3, 2022 – December 18, 2023.

 

I-75 Service Drive

  • Existing mobile closures on the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Clark Street and Green Streets, and Springwells and Central Streets will remain in place until October 31, 2022, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. as needed. Only one lane will close. Closures will be less than 30 minutes for mobilization and demobilization of equipment activities.
  • Mobile closures on northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Schaefer Avenue and Michigan Avenue will remain in place until October 28, 2022, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily as needed.
  • The existing northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive closures between Waterman Street and Dragoon Street will remain in place until December 16, 2022. These long-term closures have been extended to complete the realignment and reconstruction of the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives.

 

  • Northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive will close over a long-term period between Green Street and Waterman Street. Combined with pre-existing Service Drive closures in the area will make the entire northbound and southbound Service Drive closed from Springwells Street to Clark Street.

The following road closures are in place;

  • Waterman Street between northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives
  • Dragoon Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive
  • Green Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive.

 

  • The southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Clark Street and Dragoon Street until December 16, 2022.
  • The northbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Clark Street and Dragoon Street until December 16, 2022.
  • The southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Junction Street and Clark Street until December 16, 2022, at 06:00 p.m.
  • The northbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Junction Street and Clark Street until December 16, 2022 at 06:00 p.m.
  • The southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Dragoon Street and Junction Street until December 16,2022 at 06:00 p.m.
  • The northbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Dragoon Street and Junction Street until December 16, 2022 at 06:00 p.m.

 

Long Term I-75 Closures

As construction of the Michigan Interchange and the US Port of Entry (POE) continues, Bridging North America will extend the temporary closures along Livernois Avenue. Additionally, Cavalry Street and Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period. As a reminder, in July 2020, several streets closed over a long-term period including sections of Dragoon Street, Driggs Street, Harvey Street, Reeder Street and Hussar Street.

 

Junction Street

  • Junction Street bridge between the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives will close over a long-term period.

Springwells Court

  • Springwells Court northbound and southbound is closed west of the Lafarge entrance to east of the Springwells Court detour from May 15, 2021 until November 23, 2024.

Cavalry Street

  • Cavalry Street will remain closed between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.

Military Street

  • Military Street will remain closed between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.

Post Street

  • Post Street remains closed over a long-term period between CSX Railroad and the Delray Mechanical entrance.

Campbell Street 

  • The existing long-term closure on Campbell Street between West Jefferson Avenue and Fort Street will remain in place until May 31, 2023.

Construction Activities 

US Port of Entry (POE)

  • Removal of the surcharge material continues at the west bridge.
  • Installation of underground wet and dry utilities continues as the fourth lift of the EPS block foundation placement is being done for the USDA building.
  • Installation of metal composite material (MCM) panels and masonry unit (CMU) blocks continue as well as the installation of pipe insulation, overhead hangers, conduits, pipes, ducts and caulked glass for the Commercial building.
  • Crews are performing wall rough-ins for conduit and the installation of overhead hangers, ducts, conduits and pipes for the Main building. Activities also include the installation of masonry unit (CMU) blocks, partition steel, interior framing and girts and curtain wall caulking.
  • Column isolation work and the installation of masonry unit (CMU) blocks continue for the Outbound building. Work also continues on the overhead hangers, pipes and conduits.
  • Crews continue grounding and underground electrical installation in the Pedestrian Processing building.
  • Form work for the east battered piers continues for the Non-Commercial and the Commercial Canopies.
  • Footings formwork continues for the After-Hours Canopy.
  • Sewer cleaning work continues on site.

US Bridge site

  • Rebar installation and concrete work continues inside the pylon head of the tower.
  • Crews have installed a new set of anchor boxes in the tower.
  • Edge girder installation and rebar stitching continues on the bridge road deck.
  • Approach and back span activities are ongoing.

Michigan Interchange

  • Roof slab stripping continues on the north diversion chamber of the Calvary siphon.
  • Pour and stripping of the reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) installation continues on the northbound Military siphon.
  • Installation of rebar continues on the Junction northbound siphon.
  • Girder installation and pile driving work continues along I-75.
  • Concrete placement as well as curb and gutter work continues on northbound Service Drive from Livernois to Green and on southbound Service Drive from Waterman to Green.
  • Additional drainage is being installed on northbound Service Drive at Beard Street.
  • Concrete paving work continues on ramps for northbound I-75.
