Michigan Interchange I-75 Closures

EMERGENCY DETOUR ALERT: Bridging North America (BNA) has implemented a new detour on Woodmere Street in response to the emergency closure of the Fort Street and Dearborn Street intersection. Northbound motorists heading toward Springwells Street northbound will be detoured to Fort Street eastbound/Melville Street eastbound, south on Green Street southbound, west on Jefferson Avenue westbound, north on Dearborn Street northbound, north on Woodmere Street, east on Vernor Highway eastbound, and then Springwells Street.

 

Fort Street - NEW

  • The existing mobile closure on Fort Street between Springwells Street and Clark Street will remain in place
    until June 30, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily as needed.
  • The parking and right lane on eastbound and westbound Fort Street will close between Green Street
    and Junction Street from February 13 – March 10, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily as needed.
  • The parking, right, left, and center left turn lanes on westbound Fort Street will close between
    Crawford Street and Military Street from February 21, 2023, at 9 p.m. until February 22, 2023, at 5 a.m.
  • One lane on Fort Street will remain open in each direction between Crawford Street and Military Street
    from February 21, 2023, at 9 p.m. until February 22, 2023, at 5 a.m.
  • The parking, right, and left lanes on eastbound Fort Street between Crawford Street and Military Street
    will close from February 23, 2023, at 9 p.m. until February 24, 2023, at 5 a.m.
  • The parking, right, left, and center left turn lanes on westbound Fort Street will close between
    Crawford Street and Cavalry Street from February 22, 2023, at 9 p.m. until February 23, 2023, at 5 a.m.

Jefferson Avenue 

  • The existing traffic shift on eastbound Jefferson Avenue to westbound Jefferson Avenue will remain in place until June 19, 2023, for curb reconstruction work.

Green Street

  • The existing closure on Green Street between Fort Street and southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain in place until further notice.

Livernois Avenue - NEW

  • The existing closure on Livernois Avenue between Fort Street and Norfolk Southern Railroad Tracks will
    remain in place until April 28, 2023.
  • All lanes of Livernois Avenue will close between Fort Street and Lafayette Boulevard from February 21,
    2023, at 9 p.m. until February 22, 2023, at 5 a.m.
  • The right lane of northbound Livernois Avenue will close between Fort Street and northbound I-75
    Service Drive will close from February 22, 2023, at 9 p.m. until February 23, 2023, at 5 a.m.
  • All lanes of Livernois Avenue will close between the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks and Fort Street
    from February 23 - June 26, 2023.

I-75 Northbound 

  • The Livernois exit-ramp at Northbound I-75 will close over a long-term period.

I-75 Southbound

  • The right shoulder and right lane will close on northbound I-75 from Springwells Street to Clark Street from September 26, 2022 – December 18, 2023.
  • The right shoulder and right lane will close on southbound I-75 from Bagley Avenue to Springwells Street from October 3, 2022 – December 18, 2023.

I-75 

  • The left lane of northbound I-75 Service Drive will close between Wilde Street and Rademacher Street from January 9 – May 31, 2023.
  • All lanes of northbound I-75 Service Drive will close between Wilde Street and Rademacher Street from January 9 – May 31, 2023, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily as needed.

West End Street

  • Southbound and northbound I-75 Service Drives will remain closed between Wheelock Street and Springwells Street until June 30, 2023.

I-75 Service Drive

  • Existing mobile closures on the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Clark Street and Scotten Streets, and Springwells and Central Streets will remain in place until March 31, 2023, between 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. as needed. Only one lane will close. Closures will be less than 30 minutes in duration during these time frames for mobilization and demobilization of equipment activities.
  • The existing mobile closures along northbound and southbound I-75 between Schaefer Avenue and Michigan Avenue will remain in place until April 28, 2023, from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily as needed.
  • Northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive will close over a long-term period between Green Street and Waterman Street. Combined with pre-existing Service Drive closures in the area will make the entire northbound and southbound Service Drive closed from Springwells Street to Clark Street.
  • The left lane on southbound I-75 Service Drive will close between southbound I-75 and the Clark Street off-ramp to Hubbard Street from January 23 - June 30, 2023.
  • The left lane on southbound I-75 Service Drive will close between Clark Street and the southbound I-75 off-ramp from January 23 - June 30, 2023.
  • There will be a mobile closure on southbound I-75 Service Drive and the Clark Street off-ramp from January 19 - 24, 2023, between 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily as needed.

 

The following road closures are in place;

  • Waterman Street between northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives
  • Dragoon Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive
  • Green Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive.

 

  • The left lane on southbound I-75 Service Drive will close between southbound I-75 and the Clark Street off-ramp to Hubbard Street from January 23 - June 30, 2023.
  • The left lane on southbound I-75 Service Drive will close between Clark Street and the southbound I-75 off-ramp from January 23 - June 30, 2023.
  • There will be a mobile closure on southbound I-75 Service Drive and the Clark Street off-ramp from January 19 - 24, 2023, between 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily as needed.

 

Long Term I-75 Closures

As construction of the Michigan Interchange and the US Port of Entry (POE) continues, Bridging North America will extend the temporary closures along Livernois Avenue. Additionally, Cavalry Street and Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period. As a reminder, in July 2020, several streets closed over a long-term period including sections of Dragoon Street, Driggs Street, Harvey Street, Reeder Street and Hussar Street.

 

Junction Street

  • Junction Street bridge between the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives will close over a long-term period.

Springwells Court

  • Springwells Court northbound and southbound is closed west of the Lafarge entrance to east of the Springwells Court detour from May 15, 2021 until November 23, 2024.

Cavalry Street

  • Cavalry Street will remain closed between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.

Military Street

  • Military Street will remain closed between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.

Post Street

  • Post Street remains closed over a long-term period between CSX Railroad and the Delray Mechanical entrance.

Campbell Street 

  • The existing long-term closure on Campbell Street between West Jefferson Avenue and Fort Street will remain in place until May 31, 2023.

Construction Activities 

US Port of Entry (POE)

  • Installation of underground wet and dry utilities continues.
  • The team placed Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) blocks at Schroeder Street and installed the perimeter drain on the USDA building.
  • Installation of the earth retention system for the jacking pit.
  • Work activities on the Commercial building included the installation of the following: masonry unit (CMU) blocks, in-wall piping, insulation and fire suppression, setting steel for the cooling tower, and overhead hangers, duct work, radiant heaters, hollow metal door frames and framing.
  • The team pulled branch wire, conduit and fire caulking, and installed air piping, sump pumps, and piping at the truck dock.
  • Work on the Main building work continued with glazing and caulking the curtain wall, in-wall rough ins, fire suppression rough ins, hangers and pipe installation, and masonry unit (CMU) block installation in the dog kennel area. As well, the team applied the air vapour barrier and framed and installed metal door frames and installed girts and insulation on the west elevation.
  • The team installed girts and insulation on the east elevation, worked on the elevator shaft, and installed overhead hangers, piles and conduits, and pipe insulation on the Outbound building.
  • The POE team formed the foundation footing on the USDA building and staged geopolymer for
    the Waterman sewer.

US Bridge site

  • Rebar installation continues.
  • Stay cable installation work continues.
  • The team continues to work on pier footing formwork and cap formwork.
  • Approach and back span activities are ongoing.

Michigan Interchange

  • The team continued form and rebar work on piers and worked on pier caps.
  • Crews dealt with asbestos, lead paint abatement, and miscellaneous metals removal.
  • The siphons team placed bedding on northbound Military, set reinforced concrete pipe on northbound Junction, and backfilled reinforced concrete pipe on southbound Junction.
