Road Closure

Sandwich Street

• On Saturday, November 4, 2023, Bridging North America will implement a full closure of Sandwich Street between the Essex Terminal Railway (ETR) easement tracks and Chappell Avenue. This closure is anticipated to be in place 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. Following this one-day closure, traffic will return to the current one-lane northbound configuration.
• Detour routes are proposed as follows:
  • Southbound traffic:
    • Southbound traffic will detour to Huron Church Road:
      • Vehicular traffic will turn east on Prince Road and follow it to Huron Church Road
      • Commercial (truck) traffic will turn east on Prince Road and then east on Tecumseh Road to Huron Church Road.
      • Once traffic has reached Huron Church Road the detour ends. Huron Church Road can be followed to reach the intended destination of E.C. Row Expressway, Highway 401, Ojibway Parkway or addresses on Sandwich Street within the construction work area.
  • Northbound traffic:
    • Northbound traffic will be redirected prior to entering Sandwich Street in the following manner:
      • Vehicular traffic coming from Ojibway Parkway (northbound) will continue on E.C. Row Expressway (eastbound) and exit on Huron Church Road northbound, turn northwest onto Prince Road and continue toward Sandwich Street. 
      • Vehicular traffic coming from E.C. Row Expressway(eastbound) will exit on Huron Church Road northbound, turn northwest onto Prince Road and continue towards Sandwich Street.
      • Commercial (truck) traffic coming from Ojibway Parkway (northbound) will continue on E.C. Row Expressway (eastbound) and exit on Huron Church Road northbound, turn west onto Tecumseh Road W, northwest onto Prince Road, and continue toward Sandwich Street. 
      • Commercial (truck) traffic coming from E.C. Row Expressway (eastbound) will exit on Huron Church Road northbound, turn west onto Tecumseh Road W, northwest onto Prince Road, and continue toward Sandwich Street. 

• Partial Closure of Sandwich Street between the Essex Terminal Railway easement (ETR) tracks and Chappell Avenue anticipated to start September 5, 2023 for 14 weeks.

Canadian Port of Entry (POE)

• Construction activities remain ongoing for interior and exterior components of the buildings and structures
• This week, activities include carpet and tiling installation, rolling door and curtain wall installation, drywall priming and painting and roofing work. Electrical work continues, as well.

Canadian Bridge site

• Cap construction continued at anchor pier.
• Tower upper pylon construction continues.
• Installation of main span segment panels continued.
• Stay cable installation work continues.
• Approach and back span activities are ongoing.
