Road Closures

Sandwich Street

  • Starting March 18 2024, Bridging North America will temporarily close Sandwich Street between McKee Road and the intersection of Ojibway Parkway and Sandwich Street.
    • This closure will allow for crews to construct storm sewer, infill ditches and install the concrete pavement, curbs, sidewalks, driveway aprons, etc. as well as the asphalt pavement for Multi-use Trail.
      • The following detour route is in place:
        • Sandwich Street southbound traffic will continue southbound on Ojibway Parkway, past the intersection with E.C. Row Expressway, and turn west on Broadway Street. Traffic on E.C. Row Expressway and Ojibway Parkway will be directed to go west on Broadway Street.Access to adjacent businesses will be maintained.
  • Anticipated to start the week of April 15, 2024, and lasting approximately 2.5 months, Bridging North America will undertake watermain installation on Sandwich Street between Chappell Avenue and Chewett Street. Completion of the work will require rolling lane closures, temporary parking restrictions and some access restrictions to side streets throughout this stretch of Sandwich Street.
    • Through the use of flaggers, sections of Sandwich Street will be reduced to one lane of two-way traffic during the hours of 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Two lanes will reopen to traffic during overnight hours.
    • During construction, access to adjacent residences, businesses and pedestrian walkways will be maintained and parking on Sandwich Street will not be permitted. As sections of work are completed, the roadway will reopen to two lanes of traffic.
  • Starting April 29, 2024 and lasting approximately 12 weeks, Bridging North America will implement temporary lane closures on Sandwich Street between the Essex Terminal Railway easement (ETR) tracks and Ojibway Parkway. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times. Construction will occur 7 am to 7 pm.
    • This work will allow crews to remove old concrete and reinstall pavement, curbs, sidewalks, driveway aprons, etc. and install granular base and asphalt pavement for Multi-use Trail.
    • Businesses will have driveway access at all times.
  • Anticipated to start May 30, 2024, and lasting approximately 2 months, Bridging North America will put rolling full closures of Sandwich Street in place, within active construction zones to ensure the safety of the construction crews.
    • Construction activities will continue to take place in the following segments:
      • Chappell Avenue to Prince Road
      • Prince Road to South Street
      • South Street to Brock Street
      • Brock Street to Chewett Street.
    • Traffic is being detoured around the active work zone as follows:
    • All truck traffic will use Russell Street for both directions of travel.
    • All non-truck traffic will use Peter Street for northbound travel and Russell Street for southbound travel.
    • To minimize inconvenience, closures will be limited to the active work zone adjacent to and between each of the two road crews, which will include several blocks at a time. The closure will move with the crews along the 2.5 km construction zone.
    • During construction, access to adjacent residences and businesses will be maintained and parking on Sandwich Street will not be permitted.
  • Anticipated to start June 12, 2024, and lasting approximately six months, Bridging North America will put rolling full closures of Sandwich Street in place, within active construction zones to ensure the safety of the construction crews currently undertaking the work. Construction activities will continue to take place in the following segments:
    • Chappell Avenue to Prince Road
    • Prince Road to South Street
    • South Street to Brock Street
    • Brock Street to Chewett Street.
  • Traffic is being detoured around the active work zone as follows:
    • All truck traffic will use Russell Street for both directions of travel.
    • All non-truck traffic will use Peter Street for northbound travel and Russell Street for southbound travel.
