Construction Activities - Canada
Road Closures
Sandwich Street
- Starting March 18, 2024, Bridging North America will temporarily close Sandwich Street between McKee Road and the intersection of Ojibway Parkway and Sandwich Street.
- This closure will allow for crews to construct storm sewer, infill ditches and install the concrete pavement, curbs, sidewalks, driveway aprons, etc. as well as the asphalt pavement for Multi-use Trail.
- The following detour route is in place:
- Sandwich Street southbound traffic will continue southbound on Ojibway Parkway, past the intersection with E.C. Row Expressway, and turn west on Broadway Street. Traffic on E.C. Row Expressway and Ojibway Parkway will be directed to go west on Broadway Street. Access to adjacent businesses will be maintained.
- Starting April 29, 2024, Bridging North America will implement temporary lane closures on Sandwich Street between the Essex Terminal Railway easement (ETR) tracks and Ojibway Parkway. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times. Construction will occur 7 am to 7 pm.
- This work will allow crews to remove old concrete and reinstall pavement, curbs, sidewalks, driveway aprons, etc. and install granular base and asphalt pavement for Multi-use Trail. Businesses will have driveway access at all times.
- Beginning the week of May 21, 2024, full closures of Sandwich Street within active constructions zones is required for the safety of our construction crews.
- These closures will allow for crews to conduct watermain work.
- Construction activities will continue to take place in the following segments with work occurring in two sections simultaneously:
- Chappell Avenue to Prince Road
- Prince Road to South Street
- South Street to Brock Street
- Brock Street to Chewett Street.
- To minimize inconvenience, closures will be limited to the active work zone adjacent to and between each of the two road crews, which will include several blocks at a time. The closure will move with the crews along the 2.5 km construction zone.
- Traffic will be detoured around the active work zone as follows:
- All truck traffic will use Russell Street for both directions of travel.
- All non-truck traffic will use Peter Street for northbound travel and Russell Street for southbound travel.
- As sections of work are completed, the roadway will reopen to two lanes of traffic on Sandwich Street.
- During construction, access to adjacent residences and businesses will be maintained and parking on Sandwich Street will not be permitted.
- Starting June 12, 2024, and lasting approximately six months, Bridging North America will have rolling full closures of Sandwich Street in place, within active construction zones to ensure the safety of the construction crews currently undertaking the work.
- These closures will allow for crews to complete reconstruction work.
- Construction activities will continue to take place in the following segments:
- Chappell Avenue to Prince Road
- Prince Road to South Street
- South Street to Brock Street
- Brock Street to Chewett Street.
- Traffic is being detoured around the active work zone as follows:
- All truck traffic will use Russell Street for both directions of travel.
- All non-truck traffic will use Peter Street for northbound travel and Russell Street for southbound travel.
- During construction, parking on Sandwich Street will not be permitted but available on side streets and outside active work areas. Active work areas will be marked with temporary “no parking” signage.
