Detroit River Exclusion Zone

Safety is the top priority of the Gordie Howe International Bridge project. As shoreline work and bridge construction over the Detroit River continues, a 46-metre/150-foot exclusion zone along the Canadian bridge site is in place to keep everyone safe during construction.

The project team has specially trained staff in safety boats monitoring the exclusion zone area to prevent Detroit River users from entering.

The exclusion zone is in accordance with the Canadian Coast Guard Navigation Warning (NAVWARN) and Notice to Mariners (NOTMAR) systems, and the Windsor Port Authority’s traffic control zones. Local police and port authorities are enforcing the exclusion zone and entering the zone may result in a fine of up to $500.
