About Bridging North America

Bridging North America (BNA) is WDBA’s private-sector partner responsible for the design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Canadian and US Ports of Entry and the bridge, and to design, build and finance the Michigan Interchange under a public-private partnership agreement (P3). The state of Michigan will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of the Michigan Interchange.

BNA is comprised of FlatironDragados, Fluor, and Aecon – firms with local experience and knowledge, world-class transportation expertise and a proven ability to deliver bridge, facility and highway infrastructure projects.

Skilled Trades Opportunities with Bridging North America

Bridging North America is working with local skilled trades unions to reach project labor agreements that will cover participation on the project. The most active period for construction on the project is expected to occur between 2021-2023, when approximately 70 percent of total work hours will be expended.

Local Business Opportunities

Bridging North America (BNA) is the private-sector partner contracted by Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) responsible for designing, building, financing, operating and maintaining the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.

Most of the bid package opportunities for the Design-Build phase of the project have been awarded by BNA. As construction continues, BNA will continue to incorporate vendors for miscellaneous steel works, tools, consumables, safety PPE, and other support items.

Opportunities with Major Subcontractors

BNA is working with Tier 1 subcontractors on the Canadian Port of Entry (POE):

  • Sterling Ridge (earthworks and concrete works)

  • CYMI (electrical works)

Questionnaire

BNA requires all companies wishing to do business with BNA will be required to complete a qualification questionnaire and provide details about relevant licensing, compliance with federal and/or state or provincial laws related to equal employment opportunities (EEO), financial status, insurance, bonding capacity, quality assurance, and health, safety and environmental (HS&E) ratings.

Business Conduct Expectation

BNA expects all subcontractors, suppliers and vendors BNA works with to understand its requirements and expectations for conducting business with the highest standards of integrity.

Disadvantaged Business Enterprise

BNA will engage, employ and contract Detroit residents and Detroit-based and Detroit-headquartered businesses. The Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) goals established for this project is 2.15% of the cost of the construction and engineering work needed to complete the Michigan Interchange and the portion of the bridge that is located in Michigan.

2021 Annual Procurement Summit Virtual Events

October 19 & 20, 2021 – More than 185 representatives attended the Annual Procurement Summit Virtual events hosted by Bridging North America and Tier One Subcontractors for the project. The events provided an opportunity to learn about Bridging North America’s procurement process and opportunities in Canada and the US and to connect directly with representatives of the project and other companies.

2020 Meet the Contractor Virtual Events

October 28 & 29, 2020 – More than 120 representatives from local businesses attended the virtual Meet the Contractor events hosted by Bridging North America and Tier One Subcontractors for the project. The events provided an opportunity to learn about Bridging North America’s procurement process and network with representatives of the project and other companies.

2019 Vendor Summits

November 13 & 20, 2019 — More than 800 representatives from local businesses and companies attended Vendor Summits in Windsor and Detroit. The events provided an opportunity to learn about Bridging North America’s procurement process and upcoming contracting opportunities.
