On November 30, 2022, the Gordie Howe International Bridge team announced the launch of the application period for the 2023 Community Organization Investment. This is a five-year initiative under the Community Benefits Plan that provides funding to registered non-profits or charitable organizations to support programming, events and small infrastructure improvements in the Sandwich and Southwest Detroit communities.
In its first three years, $300,000 (CDN) has been invested in 26 local initiatives. Year after year, the project has received applications that have far exceeded the annual funding envelope of $100,000 (CDN). Following consultation with community partners, the project team has committed to increasing the annual investment to $200,000 (CDN) for the remaining two years of the initiative through the Community Benefits Plan.
Applications from eligible organizations will be accepted until January 25, 2023, which will be followed by an extensive review process. Recipients of the 2023 Community Organization Investment funding will be announced in spring 2023.
