The Gordie Howe International Bridge Community Benefits Plan includes the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Strategy, a $23 million CDN investment in the local communities of Sandwich/west Windsor and Delray/Southwest Detroit. All $23 million of the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Strategy funding will be invested in the host communities of Sandwich/west Windsor and Delray/Southwest Detroit before the end of the Design-Build period. Approximately $5.5 million ($3.3 million in Canada and $2.2 million in the US) is currently available and the project team intends to assign a portion of this funding this year to support the expansion of existing projects and add new initiatives to the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Strategy. 

The project team is facilitating two concurrent Calls for Proposals to identify investments, including: 

There is specific criteria for each call and interested organizations are encouraged to attend an information session in July to learn more. 

  • In-person information sessions:
    • 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday July 3, 2024, at the Southwest Detroit Community Office, 7744 W. Vernor Hwy, Detroit  
      • Presentations by the project team will occur at 9:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. 
    • 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the Sandwich Community Office, 3201 Sandwich Street, Windsor  
      • Presentations by the project team will occur at 1:45 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. 
  • 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. on Wednesday July 10, 2024 - A specific information session focusing on the Call for Regional Tourism and Economic Development proposals will be held at the Southwest Detroit Community Office, 7744 W. Vernor Hwy, Detroit. This session will include a presentation on tourism and economic development in the region, a presentation on the Call for Proposals opportunity and designated networking time to facilitate introductions to potential partners. Pre-registration by Friday July 5, 2024, is required via Eventbrite. 
  • Virtual information session at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024, 2024, via Microsoft Teams. Pre-registration is required via Eventbrite.  

Registration is not required for the July 3 and 4, 2024, in-person sessions. 

Eligible organizations can submit proposal documents until 4 p.m. EST on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 4 p.m.
