Malden Park is getting an exciting new permanent addition – an observation area on the highest hill in Essex County so you can watch construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
Malden Park visitors will have the best view in town to see this once-in-a-generation undertaking, just in time to watch as bridge construction progresses over the Detroit River to join in the middle next year.
Construction of the observation area started in early September and is anticipated to take seven weeks for completion. Activities include excavation, foundational work, mixed gravel fill, landscaping and installation of benches, railings and way-finding signage. The observation area will also be equipped with binoculars giving you an up-close view of the project.
Funding for a US observation area was provided to the City of River Rouge for construction in Belanger Park. The observation area is currently under construction.
The observation areas are part of the $20 million (CDN) Neighbourhood Infrastructure Strategy, a component of the project Community Benefits Plan. Read more about the Malden Park Observation Area
