On October 21 and November 4, 2023, the Gordie Howe International Bridge project team hosted community appreciation breakfasts for the residents of Delray/Southwest Detroit and Sandwich/west Windsor to celebrate five years of construction and thank the communities for their ongoing support.
Approximately 700 people joined the celebrations held at Clark Park in Detroit and at Sandwich Teen Action Group (STAG) in Windsor. Attendees enjoyed free breakfast, musical entertainment and family fun including games, face painting and a construction themed photobooth.
The project team engaged local businesses, entertainers and community partners where possible to deliver these celebrations and thanks all of the vendors that helped bring these events to life. Special shout-out to STAG and Clark Park Coalition for providing venues perfect for the occasion.
Living near a major construction project can be challenging, and the project team deeply appreciates the patience and support local residents and businesses have shown over the past five years. The project team is committed to continued engagement with residents, businesses and community members as construction progresses and we begin preparations for opening day. Thank you for helping us reach new heights. We look forward to future celebrations.
