The Gordie Howe International Bridge project team is requesting public feedback on initiatives under consideration for Community Benefits funding in 2022.
All initiatives under consideration support the Southwest Detroit/west Windsor communities, align with the priorities identified through Community Benefits Plan consultation in 2015-2018 and include exciting events, new programming and community infrastructure. The proposals stem from ideas that were not included in the original Community Benefits Plan or those that have been brought forward to the project team since the Plan’s release in 2019. To maintain confidentiality, the names of the potential delivery partners are not being released at this time.
You can provide feedback on the projects under consideration by emailing info [at] wdbridge.com, by calling 1-844-322-1773 or by joining the team in person at the next quarterly public meeting in Detroit on October 5, 2022, or Windsor on October 6, 2022.
Funding will be made available through the project’s Community Benefits Plan, which includes the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Strategy that represents a $20 million investment into the Sandwich/west Windsor and Delray/Southwest Detroit communities. Of the $20 million, approximately $5.4 million is still to be assigned to support the expansion of existing initiatives or the addition of new initiatives to the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Strategy, such as those currently under consideration. A portion of the unassigned funds will be assigned this year with the remaining funds assigned and released in future years, before the end of the Design-Build period.
