Behind every large infrastructure project is a diverse team of individuals working towards the end goal of getting the project built. Here at the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) we are fortunate to have a staff made up of many talented individuals with diverse backgrounds helping to deliver the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
To celebrate engineering month in Canada, we wanted to take this opportunity to introduce to you a few of the faces behind this international infrastructure project.
Christina Vickery is a civil engineering graduate of McMaster University. As part of the WDBA team, she is one of our project managers contributing to the public-private partnership procurement process and provides contract administration for the Early Works project at the Canadian Port of Entry. Prior to joining us, she worked on the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway in a similar capacity for the Government of Ontario.
When we asked her what drove her into her chosen field of work she told us that growing up she always liked to know how things worked and were put together. This, coupled with a great family support system where she learned about construction from her father and grandfather who spent their careers in construction right here in Windsor, led her to entering the world of engineering.
Her piece of advice for those considering a career in engineering – “It’s a lot of work but, it really is a profession that can take you anywhere you want to go.”
