Michigan Interchange I-75 Closures

EMERGENCY DETOUR ALERT: Bridging North America has implemented a new detour on Woodmere Street in response to the emergency closure of the Fort Street and Dearborn Street intersection. 

  • Northbound motorists heading toward Springwells Street northbound will be detoured to Fort Street eastbound/Melville Street eastbound, south on Green Street southbound, west on Jefferson Avenue westbound, north on Dearborn Street northbound, north on Woodmere Street, east on Vernor Highway eastbound, and then Springwells Street.

Fort Street​ - NEW

  • The parking lane on eastbound Fort Street will close between Cavalry Street and Junction Street, from April 4 until April 25, 2022, from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily as needed. 

Jefferson Avenue​ - NEW

  • The parking lane on westbound West Jefferson Avenue will close between Cavalry Street and Junction Street, from March 28, 2022 until April 18, 2022, from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily as needed.

Clark Street​ - NEW

  • Clark Street will close between Fort Street and northbound I-75 Service Drive from March 28 until May 24, 2022 to support the reconstruction of the Clark Street approaches and intersections.
  • The Clark Street entrance-ramp to northbound I-75 will close during construction until May 24, 2022.
  • Clark Street will close to the south of Fort Street from April 11, 2022 until May 24, 2022. 

Livernois Avenue​ 

  • Mobile closures will be on northbound and southbound Livernois Avenue between Fort Street and Lafayette Boulevard until June 6, 2022, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily as needed. Only one lane will close. Closures will be less than 30 minutes in duration for mobilization and demobilization of equipment activities.

I-75 Southbound 

  • The left land of southbound I-75 will remain closed between Springwells Street and McKinstry Street until June 6, 2022.
  • The left lane of southbound I-75 will remain closed between Bagley Avenue and Junction Street until June 6, 2022. 

I-75 Northbound 

  • The Livernois exit-ramp at Northbound I-75 will close over a long-term period, starting at 7 a.m. on June 15, 2021.
  • The left lane of northbound I-75 will remain closed between Harbaugh Street and Clark Street until June 6, 2022. 

I-75 Service Drive - NEW

  • Northbound I-75 Service Drive is closed from Waterman Street to Dragoon Street until August 1, 2022.
  • Southbound I-75 Service Drive is closed from Waterman Street to Dragoon Street until August 1, 2022.
  • I-75 Service Drive in both directions is closed between Clark Street and Dragoon Street until June 15, 2022. Junction Street will remain open to through traffic.
  • Mobile closures will be extended on northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Clark Street and Scotten Street and also Springwells Street to Central Street until April 29, 2022, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. as needed. Only one lane will close. Closures will be less than 30 minutes in duration during these timeframes for mobilization and demobilization of equipment activities.
  • Northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive will close over a long-term period between Green Street and Waterman Street. Combined with pre-existing Service Drive closures in the area will make the entire northbound and southbound Service Drive closed from Springwells Street to Clark Street.

The following road closures are in place;

  • Waterman Street between northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives.
  • Dragoon Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive.
  • Green Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive.

Long Term I-75 Closures

As construction of the Michigan Interchange and the US Port of Entry (POE) continues, Bridging North America will extend the temporary closures along Livernois Avenue. Additionally, Cavalry Street and Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period. As a reminder, in July 2020, several streets closed over a long-term period including sections of Dragoon Street, Driggs Street, Harvey Street, Reeder Street and Hussar Street.

Cavalry Street

  • Cavalry Street will remain closed over a long-term period between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street. 

Military Street

  • Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.

Livernois Avenue

  • Livernois Avenue will remain closed between Fort Street and Norfolk Southern Railroad Tracks (open for local traffic only) until June 10, 2022.
  • The Livernois Avenue ramps to north and southbound I-75 remain closed.
  • The Livernois Avenue entrance-ramp at southbound I-75 remains closed. 

Post Street

  • Post Street remains closed over a long-term period between CSX Railroad and the Delray Mechanical entrance. 

Springwells Court

  • Springwells Court northbound and southbound is closed west of the Lafarge entrance to east of the Springwells Court detour from May 15, 2021 until November 23, 2024.

Construction Activities

US Port of Entry (POE)

  • Excavation, proof roll and backfill of engineered fill continue for the commercial outbound road.
  • Surcharge continues to be removed in the outbound canopy area.
  • Underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing work as well as preparation for slab on grade work continues for the commercial building. Crews are also working on the installation of the stairs, the erection of the blast framing and the application of grout under the steel columns.
  • Installation and backfill of the foundations and steel erection is ongoing for the main building.
  • Foundation work continues for the outbound building.
  • Sewer cleaning continues at Calvary Street. 

US Bridge site

  • Modifications continue to the tower jump forms.
  • Concrete, rebar and formwork continue in the transition area from tower legs to pylon head.
  • Concrete, rebar and formwork continue for side span pier work. 

Michigan Interchange

  • Crews are completing concrete pours for Clark Street overpass bridge, Springwell wall and Green Street abutment.
  • Form and rebar operations continue for the junction chambers and elbows for north and southbound Campbell siphons.
  • Open cut excavation work continues for Calvary siphon.
  • Excavation work continues at the Green and Waterman north and southbound Service Drives.
  • Hard surface removal, roadway and retaining wall excavation work continues on Campbell Street.
  • Concrete pile activities continue for bridge ramp work.
