Michigan Interchange I-75 Closures
EMERGENCY DETOUR ALERT: Bridging North America (BNA) has implemented a new detour on Woodmere Street in response to the emergency closure of the Fort Street and Dearborn Street intersection. Northbound motorists heading toward Springwells Street northbound will be detoured to Fort Street eastbound/Melville Street eastbound, south on Green Street southbound, west on Jefferson Avenue westbound, north on Dearborn Street northbound, north on Woodmere Street, east on Vernor Highway eastbound, and then Springwells Street.
I-75 Northbound - NEW
- All lanes of northbound I-75 will close between Springwells Street and Clark Street from July 8-11, 2022.
- The Livernois exit-ramp at Northbound I-75 will close over a long-term period.
- The existing left lane closure on northbound I-75 between Harbaugh Street and Clark Street will remain in place until September 26, 2022.
I-75 Southbound - NEW
- All lanes of southbound I-75 will close between Springwells Street and Clark Street from July 8-11, 2022.
- The existing left lane closure on southbound I-75 will remain in place between Bagley Avenue and Junction Street until September 26, 2022.
- The existing left lane closure on southbound I-75 between Springwells Street and McKinstry Street will remain in place until September 26, 2022.
Vernor Highway - NEW
- The Vernor Highway on-ramp to southbound I-75 will close from July 8–11, 2022.
Ambassador Bridge On-Ramp - NEW
- All lanes of the Ambassador Bridge on-ramp to southbound I-75 will close from July 8–11, 2022
Springwells Street - NEW
- All lanes of the Springwells Street on-ramp to northbound I-75 will close from July 8-11, 2022.
- All lanes of the Springwells Street exit-ramp from southbound I-75 will close from July 8-11, 2022.
Clark Street - NEW
- On July 8, 2022, three left lanes of northbound I-75 and the three left lanes of southbound I-75 will close between Springwells Street and Clark Street from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. One lane will remain open until 9 p.m.
- The left lanes on southbound and northbound Clark Street will close at Fort Street from July 12 to August 15, 2022, daily as needed.
- Northbound or southbound Clark Street will close between Fort Street and southbound I-75 Service Drive from June 20, 2022 until September 9, 2022.
- Northbound or southbound Clark Street will close south of Fort Street from June 20, 2022 until September 9, 2022.
Fort Street - NEW
- The existing right lane and parking lane closure on westbound Fort Street between Wheelock Street and Beard Street will remain in place until August 15, 2022.
- The left and center left turn lanes on eastbound and westbound Fort Street will close at Clark Street from July 12 to August 15, 2022, daily as needed.
- The existing mobile closure on Fort Street between Springwells Street and Clark Street will remain in place until December 23, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily as needed.
Campbell Street
- The existing long-term closure on Campbell Street between West Jefferson Avenue and Fort Street will remain in place until August 31, 2022.
I-75 Service Drive
- Existing mobile closures on the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Clark Street and Green Streets, and Springwells and Central Streets will remain in place until October 31, 2022, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. as needed. Only one lane will close. Closures will be less than 30 minutes for mobilization and demobilization of equipment activities.
I-75 Service Drive
- Mobile closures on northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Schaefer Avenue and Michigan
- Avenue will remain in place until October 28, 2022, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily as needed.
- Northbound I-75 Service Drive is closed from Waterman Street to Dragoon Street until August 1, 2022.
- Southbound I-75 Service Drive is closed from Waterman Street to Dragoon Street until August 1, 2022.
- Northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive will close over a long-term period between Green Street and Waterman Street. Combined with pre-existing Service Drive closures in the area will make the entire northbound and southbound Service Drive closed from Springwells Street to Clark Street.
The following road closures are in place;
- Waterman Street between northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives
- Dragoon Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive
- Green Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive.
Long Term I-75 Closures
As construction of the Michigan Interchange and the US Port of Entry (POE) continues, Bridging North America will extend the temporary closures along Livernois Avenue. Additionally, Cavalry Street and Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period. As a reminder, in July 2020, several streets closed over a long-term period including sections of Dragoon Street, Driggs Street, Harvey Street, Reeder Street and Hussar Street.
Junction Street
- On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 7 a.m., Junction Street road bridge between the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives will close over a long-term period. The traveling public will be detoured to Fort Street, which has been fully re-opened to traffic.
Springwells Court
- Springwells Court northbound and southbound is closed west of the Lafarge entrance to east of the Springwells Court detour from May 15, 2021 until November 23, 2024.
Cavalry Street
- Cavalry Street will remain closed over a long-term period between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.
Post Street
- Post Street remains closed over a long-term period between CSX Railroad and the Delray Mechanical entrance.
Military Street
- Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.
Construction Activities
US Port of Entry (POE)
- Concrete work continues on Military Street and on Dragoon Street.
- Underground utility work as well as engineered fill activities continue at South Street.
- Precast panel activities, sheathing and framing of exterior walls, installation of overhead hangars and conduits as well as slab on grade work continue for the commercial building. Crews are also erecting and detailing ballistic frames, installing the low roof and snow melt system and the air barrier around the façade of the building.
- Steel erection, detailing and decking activities continue for the main building. Preparation continues for slab on grade work as underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing installation progresses.
- Underground conduit feeders are being installed for the outbound building.
- Sewer cleaning continues at Harvey Street.
US Bridge site
- Concrete, rebar and formwork continue for the upper cross beam in the transition area for tower legs.
- Floor beams and edge girders are being erected for the pier table.
- Work continues on the temporary bent and pier works for the side span.
- Grading and obstruction removal continues in the bridge approach area.
Michigan Interchange
- Pile driving and concrete work continues for the ramp activities along I-75.
- Fencing installation continues at Livernois and Southbound I-75 Service Drive.
- Formwork, concrete pours and stripping of barrier wall continue for the Solvay pedestrian bridge median pier.
- Concrete work continues on shoulders for the Waterman Street bridge median and Livernois Avenue median pier.
- Concrete work continues for Dragoon Street bridge median, Lansing Street pedestrian bridge median pier and Clark Street bridge median pier.
