Michigan Interchange I-75 Closures

EMERGENCY DETOUR ALERT: Bridging North America (BNA) has implemented a new detour on Woodmere Street in response to the emergency closure of the Fort Street and Dearborn Street intersection. Northbound motorists heading toward Springwells Street northbound will be detoured to Fort Street eastbound/Melville Street eastbound, south on Green Street southbound, west on Jefferson Avenue westbound, north on Dearborn Street northbound, north on Woodmere Street, east on Vernor Highway eastbound, and then Springwells Street.                                                             

Livernois Avenue - NEW

  • Northbound and southbound Livernois Avenue will close between northbound I-75 Service Drive and southbound I-75 Service Drive from July 27 to August 2, 2022, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily as needed.
  • There will be a mobile closure on Livernois Avenue between Fort Street and southbound I-75 Service Drive from July 27 to August 2, 2022, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily as needed.                                                                                                                                                                               

Clark Street 

  • The left lanes on southbound and northbound Clark Street will close at Fort Street from July 12 to August 15, 2022, daily as needed.
  • Northbound or southbound Clark Street will close between Fort Street and southbound I-75 Service Drive from June 20, 2022 until September 9, 2022.
  • Northbound or southbound Clark Street will close south of Fort Street from June 20, 2022 until September 9, 2022.

Fort Street 

  • The existing right lane and parking lane closure on westbound Fort Street between Wheelock Street and Beard Street will remain in place until August 15, 2022.
  • The left and center left turn lanes on eastbound and westbound Fort Street will close at Clark Street from July 12 to August 15, 2022, daily as needed.
  • The existing mobile closure on Fort Street between Springwells Street and Clark Street will remain in place until December 23, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily as needed.

Campbell Street

  • The existing long-term closure on Campbell Street between West Jefferson Avenue and Fort Street will remain in place until August 31, 2022.

I-75 Northbound 

  • The Livernois exit-ramp at Northbound I-75 will close over a long-term period.
  • The existing left lane closure on northbound I-75 between Harbaugh Street and Clark Street will remain in place until September 26, 2022.

I-75 Southbound 

  • The existing left lane closure on southbound I-75 will remain in place between Bagley Avenue and Junction Street until September 26, 2022.
  • The existing left lane closure on southbound I-75 between Springwells Street and McKinstry Street will remain in place until September 26, 2022.

I-75 Service Drive

  • Existing mobile closures on the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Clark Street and Green Streets, and Springwells and Central Streets will remain in place until October 31, 2022, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. as needed. Only one lane will close. Closures will be less than 30 minutes for mobilization and demobilization of equipment activities.

 

  • Mobile closures on northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Schaefer Avenue and Michigan
  • Avenue will remain in place until October 28, 2022, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily as needed.
  • Northbound I-75 Service Drive is closed from Waterman Street to Dragoon Street until August 1, 2022.
  • Southbound I-75 Service Drive is closed from Waterman Street to Dragoon Street until August 1, 2022.

Northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive will close over a long-term period between Green Street and Waterman Street. Combined with pre-existing Service Drive closures in the area will make the entire northbound and southbound Service Drive closed from Springwells Street to Clark Street.

The following road closures are in place;

  • Waterman Street between northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives
  • Dragoon Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive
  • Green Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive.

Long Term I-75 Closures

As construction of the Michigan Interchange and the US Port of Entry (POE) continues, Bridging North America will extend the temporary closures along Livernois Avenue. Additionally, Cavalry Street and Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period. As a reminder, in July 2020, several streets closed over a long-term period including sections of Dragoon Street, Driggs Street, Harvey Street, Reeder Street and Hussar Street.

Junction Street 

  • On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 7 a.m., Junction Street road bridge between the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives will close over a long-term period. The traveling public will be detoured to Fort Street, which has been fully re-opened to traffic.

Springwells Court

  • Springwells Court northbound and southbound is closed west of the Lafarge entrance to east of the Springwells Court detour from May 15, 2021 until November 23, 2024.

Cavalry Street

  • Cavalry Street will remain closed over a long-term period between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.

Post Street

  • Post Street remains closed over a long-term period between CSX Railroad and the Delray Mechanical entrance.

Military Street

  • Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street. 

Construction Activities

US Port of Entry (POE)

  • Installation of underground wet and dry utilities continue at South Street.
  • Backfilling work continues at Military Street.
  • Installation of pipes and hangers on the mezzanine and the installation of overhead hangers and conduits on the first floor continue for the commercial building. Crews are also working on the placement of slab on grade at the truck inspection area and the installation of roofing, concrete masonry unit blocks and the air barrier around the façade of the building.
  • Preparations continues for slab on deck on the mezzanine of the main building as crews erect the blast frame and continue underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing installation.
  • Work continues on the elevator pit as crews also install underground piping for the outbound building.
  • Excavation continues for the footing foundations for the non-commercial canopy.
  • Sewer cleanout continues on Harvey Street.

US Bridge site

  • Rebar activities continue for the upper cross beam in the transition area of the tower legs.
  • Floor beams, edge and redundancy girders are being erected at the pier table.
  • Concrete, rebar and formwork continue for back span piers.
  • Foundation work continues in the bridge approach area.

Michigan Interchange

  • Teams installed girders on the Beard, Solvay, Waterman and Green Street bridges.
  • Second level bracing on Calvary Street has been removed.
  • Sheet pile removal work continues on Calvary Street.
  • Barrier wall is being formed, poured and stripped on the Ferdinand Street pedestrian bridge.
  • Median pier is being removed for the Lansing Street pedestrian bridge as the barrier wall is being formed, poured and stripped.
  • Pile driving and concrete work continues for the ramp activities along I-75.
