Michigan Interchange I-75 Closures
EMERGENCY DETOUR ALERT: Bridging North America (BNA) has implemented a new detour on Woodmere Street in response to the emergency closure of the Fort Street and Dearborn Street intersection. Northbound motorists heading toward Springwells Street northbound will be detoured to Fort Street eastbound/Melville Street eastbound, south on Green Street southbound, west on Jefferson Avenue westbound, north on Dearborn Street northbound, north on Woodmere Street, east on Vernor Highway eastbound, and then Springwells Street.
West Jefferson Avenue
- West End Street will close at West Jefferson Avenue from September 6 - October 28, 2022.
West End Street
- West End Street will close at West Jefferson Avenue from September 6 - October 28, 2022.
- Southbound and northbound I-75 Service Drives will remain closed between Wheelock Street and Springwells Street until December 16, 2022.
Fort Street
- The existing mobile closure on Fort Street between Springwells Street and Clark Street will remain in place
until December 23, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily as needed.
Jefferson Avenue
- The right lane of eastbound Jefferson Avenue at the intersection of Dearborn Street will remain closed
until October 28, 2022. - The right lane of eastbound Jefferson Avenue between West End Street and Campbell Street will
remain closed and be shifted to westbound Jefferson Avenue until October 28, 2022.
Campbell Street
- The existing long-term closure on Campbell Street between West Jefferson Avenue and Fort Street will remain in place until October 31, 2022.
Livernois Avenue
- Northbound and southbound Livernois Avenue will close between northbound I-75 Service Drive and southbound I-75 Service Drive. Traffic will be reduced to one-way traffic on Livernois Avenue between northbound I-75 Service Drive and southbound I-75 Service Drive. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic.
- There will be a mobile closure on Livernois Avenue between Fort Street and southbound I-75 Service Drive, from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily as needed. Closures will be less than one hour in duration.
Springwells Street
- The right lanes on northbound and southbound Springwells Street will remain closed between Fort Street and southbound I-75 Service Drive daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Only one lane will close at a time. If the work can be completed via a mobile closure, then a mobile closure will be used instead. Mobile closures will be less than one hour.
I-75 Service Drive
- Existing mobile closures on the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Clark Street and Green Streets, and Springwells and Central Streets will remain in place until October 31, 2022, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. as needed. Only one lane will close. Closures will be less than 30 minutes for mobilization and demobilization of equipment activities.
- Mobile closures on northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Schaefer Avenue and Michigan Avenue will remain in place until October 28, 2022, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily as needed.
- The existing northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive closures between Waterman Street and Dragoon Street will remain in place until December 16, 2022. These long-term closures have been extended to complete the realignment and reconstruction of the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives.
- Northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive will close over a long-term period between Green Street and Waterman Street. Combined with pre-existing Service Drive closures in the area will make the entire northbound and southbound Service Drive closed from Springwells Street to Clark Street.
The following road closures are in place;

- Green Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive.
- The southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Clark Street and Dragoon Street until December 16, 2022.
- The northbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Clark Street and Dragoon Street until December 16, 2022.
- The southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Junction Street and Clark Street until December 16, 2022, at 06:00 p.m.
- The northbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Junction Street and Clark Street until December 16, 2022 at 06:00 p.m.
- The southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Dragoon Street and Junction Street until December 16,2022 at 06:00 p.m.
- The northbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Dragoon Street and Junction Street until December 16, 2022 at 06:00 p.m.
I-75 Northbound
- The Livernois exit-ramp at Northbound I-75 will close over a long-term period.
I-75 Southbound
- The right shoulder and right lane will close on northbound I-75 from Springwells Street to Clark Street from
September 26, 2022 – December 18, 2023. - The right shoulder and right lane will close on southbound I-75 from Bagley Avenue to Springwells Street
from October 3, 2022 – December 18, 2023.
Long Term I-75 Closures
As construction of the Michigan Interchange and the US Port of Entry (POE) continues, Bridging North America will extend the temporary closures along Livernois Avenue. Additionally, Cavalry Street and Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period. As a reminder, in July 2020, several streets closed over a long-term period including sections of Dragoon Street, Driggs Street, Harvey Street, Reeder Street and Hussar Street.
Junction Street
- Junction Street bridge between the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives will close over a long-term period.
Springwells Court
- Springwells Court northbound and southbound is closed west of the Lafarge entrance to east of the Springwells Court detour from May 15, 2021 until November 23, 2024.
Cavalry Street
- Cavalry Street will remain closed between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.
Military Street
- Military Street will remain closed between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.
Post Street
- Post Street remains closed over a long-term period between CSX Railroad and the Delray Mechanical entrance.
Construction Activities
US Port of Entry (POE)
- Installation of underground dry and wet utilities and EPS blocks continues at USDA building.
- Removal of the surcharge material at the west bridge abutment continues.
- EPS blocks for the USDA building foundation and at Waterman Street continues.
- The team formed generator pads, pulled branch wire, installed fireproofing on the structural steel, installed metal composite material (MCM) Panels, and set concrete masonry unit (CMU) blocks in the Commercial building.
- Installation of coping on the roof and in-wall conduit and piping, installation of curtain wall, overhead hangers, pipes, and ducts continues in the Commercial building.
- Activities on the main building included preparation for columns, formation of platform knee walls, in-wall roughin of conduits and CMU blocks, installation of overhead hangers and conduits and piping, installation of roof curbs, curtain walls, vapour barrier and framing.
- Outbound building activities included in-wall conduit, CMU blocks, and overhead hangers and pipes.
- Installation of underground electrical continues in the USDA building.
- Foundation work continues for the Pedestrian Processing Building.
US Bridge site
- Rebar Installation continues on the transition area of the tower legs and work progresses on the permanent access on the lower pylon.
- Installation of form and rebar continues on approach spans.
- Grounding work on the approach span progressed.
Michigan Interchange
- Rebar activities, formwork, concrete pours for abutments at several bridges along I-75.
- Pile cutting and pile driving work occurred across the I-75 site.
- Column and walls were poured this week at several bridge abutments while other form, rebar
and pour activities occurred across the I-75 site.
