Today is Bike to Work Day and the kick-off to Canada’s Bike Month! There are many benefits to incorporating active transportation into your lifestyle and WDBA is excited that the integration of a multi-use path on the Gordie Howe International Bridge will assist adjacent communities by connecting pedestrians and cyclists across the Windsor and Detroit border. We know one avid cyclist who is ready to take the ride. Meet Bobby Butler, Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis and WDBA’s dedicated bike commuter.
Bobby rides into the office daily from late April until October, unless plagued by the weather. He enjoys his daily eight kilometre commutes because they’re relaxing, keep his schedule flexible, easily incorporate exercise and help wake him up each morning.
When asked about his favourite routes throughout the City of Windsor he said, “we frequently bike through Walkerville down to the Riverfront and take the Riverfront trail from end to end. The Walkerville portion is nice as you can ride through Willistead Park and there are some patio stops available on Wyandotte.”
He can’t wait for the Gordie Howe International Bridge multi-use path to be open as he and his wife make frequent trips over to Detroit. “We have often said how great it would be to be able to bike over and explore downtown on our bikes. The ride along the river to the Gordie Howe International Bridge will be great, and hopefully the corresponding commute to downtown Detroit will be just as scenic.”
