Last week we introduced you to Christina Vickery, a Project Manager working for the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) to deliver the Gordie Howe International Bridge project. Ms. Vickery was the first profile we featured to celebrate National Engineering Month in Canada - #NEM2016. If you missed it, read more here www.gordiehoweinternationalbridge.com/en/meet-some-of-our-engineers.
Deven Bhatla
This week as we continue our celebrations by showcasing “The People Behind the Project,” we would like to introduce you to Deven Bhatla, Engineer In Training. Mr. Bhatla is a civil engineering graduate of Carleton University in Ottawa and has been working on the Gordie Howe International Bridge project in various capacities since 2014. Prior to joining WDBA, Deven worked on the project with Transport Canada. He also has had experience with the National Energy Board in Calgary.

When asked what sparked his interest to launch his education and career into the field of civil engineering, Deven speaks eagerly about a vacation he took to India and Dubai. There he saw firsthand the need for infrastructure to improve a society. He was also impressed by the engineering feats under construction that are world-renowned and record breaking and felt a desire to be a part of that. It is important to Mr. Bhatla that, in his chosen career, the work he does has a tangible benefit to society.

His advice for engineers of the future - “ being a civil engineer in particular you get to see the impact your work is leaving on others first hand while, in the case of local projects, experiencing the benefits yourself for years to come. In addition you get to work with great groups of people and on teams that will help you further your knowledge and career in this field.”

More to come next week on a few of our engineering students from the University of Windsor.
