Public Information Meetings will be held on September 24, 2024, in Windsor at Mackenzie Hall and on September 26, 2024, in Detroit at our Southwest Detroit Community Office. The meetings will provide the latest updates on Canadian and US construction activities and the implementation of the Gordie Howe International Bridge Community Benefits Plan. Presentations will begin at 3:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. followed by a question-and-answer session.

We have new drone flyovers from the Canadian Port of Entry and US Port of Entry. Check out the landscaping and paving that is taking place throughout the sites in the videos below.

Last week, the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada and many others celebrated the bridge deck connection on the Gordie Howe International Bridge. With the connection between Windsor and Detroit complete, the Gordie Howe International Bridge is now an official border crossing. The celebration not only recognized this new designation, but also served to acknowledge over 20 years of collaboration, cooperation and commitment exercised by the various project partners to advance the project to its current state.

Our third commemorative patch is now available. This patch celebrates the recent Gordie Howe International Bridge deck connection. Pick up this patch and our two others at our Community Offices in Sandwich and Southwest Detroit, open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 

All $23 million of the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Strategy funding will be invested in the host communities of Sandwich/west Windsor and Delray/Southwest Detroit before the end of the Design-Build period. Approximately $5.5 million ($3.3 million in Canada and $2.2 million in the US) is currently available and the project team intends to assign a portion of this funding this year to support the expansion of existing projects and add new initiatives to the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Strategy.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge project team is pleased to unveil the artistic concept developed by contemporary artist Jordan Sook, that recognizes and commemorates the region’s role as a destination for freedom-seekers of African descent leaving behind slavery and oppression by travelling the Underground Railroad to Canada.

Temporary bracing pieces have been installed on the Gordie Howe International Bridge. It will now appear as if the bridge deck is connected but there are a few more steps. Read more about the steps involved here.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge project team is dedicated to protecting wildlife found in and around the project site. We recently placed fish habitat enhancement structures in the Detroit River to help keep the endangered Northern madtom safe and grow their population. It’s one of many initiatives put in place to help protect species at risk. Watch this video to learn more.
