The Gordie Howe International Bridge project team is excited to announce the reopening of the fourth and final road bridge reconstructed as part of the Michigan Interchange activities. A multi-phase approach to construction of the road bridges began in 2019

It’s not just six traffic lanes and the multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists that will put the Gordie Howe International Bridge in the record books. With a main span of 853 metres or 0.5 miles, the bridge will stand as the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America.

The Community Benefits Plan includes the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Strategy, a $20 million investment in the local communities of Sandwich/west Windsor and Delray/Southwest Detroit. Approximately $5.1 million ($2.6 million in Canada and $2.5 million in the US) is currently available and the project team intends to assign a portion of this funding this year to support the expansion of existing projects and add new initiatives.

Starting July 11, 2023, WDBA’s Sandwich and Southwest Detroit Community Offices will be open to walk-in traffic on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We look forward to resuming public visits to provide the latest project information, design and construction updates and answer questions or concerns.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge project team is pleased to announce the selection of Michael Belmore, celebrated Anishinaabe artist, as the successful candidate for the Indigenous art commission to be installed at the Canadian Port of Entry.
