Excitement is building on the Gordie Howe International Bridge project team as work begins to connect the bridge deck over the Detroit River. Over the next four-to-six weeks,bridge enthusiasts from land and the river will observe a multi-step process leading up to the bridge deck connection.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge team is hosting a sticker contest to celebrate 2000 Days Of Construction on the project. We want to see what construction of the project means to you whether it’s the workers, the bridge, the towers, I-75 or the ports of entry. Be creative and have fun! The Gordie Howe International Bridge has joined the Trans Canada Trail, becoming the first international bridge border crossing within the 28,000 km trail network. The bridge will link trail networks on both sides of the Canada-United States border, connecting the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail in Windsor, to the Iron Belle Trail and the Great Lakes Way in Detroit. Trail users will be able to cross the bridge using the multi-use path. 

The Gordie Howe International Bridge project includes a dedicated multi-use path that will accommodate pedestrians and cyclists across the Windsor-Detroit border once complete.The multi-use path will be toll-free and includes one lane that will accommodate two-way pedestrian and cyclist traffic.

A new drone video of both the Canadian and US bridge sites is now available!Construction of the bridge deck over the Detroit River is currently more than two-thirds complete. Forty segments have already been installed – 20 from each tower. That leaves240 metres/787 feet to complete the connection, a feat the project team anticipates reaching this summer.

On January 4, 2024, the Gordie Howe International Bridge project team confirmed a new completion and opening timeline. Construction completion is planned for September 2025with the first vehicles expected to travel across the bridge that fall.
